Birthstones Through the Year

There are many ways that our loved ones inspire us every day of the year. When it comes to celebrating their birthdays, designing the perfect floral bouquet is a beautiful way to express your sentiments. Each month of the year is represented by both a and a birthstone. As we begin the new year, we thought we would look at the precious and semi-precious stones that will influence our designs over the next twelve months.

birthstonesJanuary, March, and July share red birthstones – the garnet, jasper, and the ruby, respectively. Red roses, amaryllis, gerbera daisies, and tulips all exhibit the fiery color that represents passion, romance, and vibrancy. The beautiful February amethyst is a lavender purple quartz that can be shown through roses, lilacs, gerbera daisies, and mums.

April, June, and October are represented by diamonds, pearls, and opals. Look to vintage off-white roses as birthstone bouquets, and add a little bling and sparkle with crystal details. May is represented by the emerald and August, the peridot. Both of these green shades can be represented with green cymbidium orchids, Fuji mums, or Bells of Ireland.

September and December share the exotic shades of blue, with sapphire and blue topaz (turquoise) doing the birthday honors. Think blue delphinium and hydrangea for this unique shade of birthday . November presents a floral dilemma with topaz (citrine), a rich amber colored birthstone. When creating birthday bouquets that represent this semi-precious stone, it may be easier to utilize white s in a bronze glass vase and metallic details.
